What concrete resurfacing actually costs in Sydney in 2026
Nobody publishes real numbers, every job is different, and the quotes you collect can be thousands of dollars apart. Here is what the Sydney market actually charges, and why the gap between quotes exists.
The short answer, with numbers
Published Australian cost guides put spray-on concrete resurfacing at $90 to $150 per square metre in Sydney, with decorative overlay systems ranging anywhere from $70 up to $260 per square metre depending on the system and the finish.

Why nobody serious will quote your driveway over the phone
The honest reason is that the two things that decide your price cannot be seen from a phone call: the condition of the slab, and what is already on it.
A driveway with stable hairline cracking and no old coating is a straightforward job. The same size driveway with spalled patches to repair, an old acrylic coating that has to be ground off, or drummy sections that need attention can carry hours of extra preparation that a per-metre figure never captures.
That is why we come out and look rather than guessing. It is also why a phone quote that sounds precise should worry you more than one that refuses to be.
What actually moves the price
Once you strip out the noise, five things account for nearly all of the spread between quotes:
- Slab condition. Cracks, spalling, drummy patches and old coatings all add preparation and repair time before anything decorative happens.
- Finish complexity. A single flat colour costs less than a flecked finish, and both cost less than stencilled patterns like herringbone or Sydney tile.
- Job size and minimum charge. Small areas cost more per metre because setup, travel and equipment are fixed whether the job is 20 metres or 80.
- Access. A steep driveway, tight side access or nowhere to park equipment all slow the work down.
- Sealer specification. UV-stable and anti-slip sealers cost more than the bare minimum, and they are usually worth it outdoors in Sydney.
Resurfacing against replacement
Replacement means demolition, jackhammers, truck movements, a skip on the nature strip, disposal fees, formwork and a new pour, then a month of curing before the new slab takes a car. By the time all of it is added up, replacing a driveway typically runs several times the cost of resurfacing the same area, and takes weeks rather than days.
That is the economic case. The honest caveat is that resurfacing only makes sense on a slab that is structurally sound. How to compare quotes that are thousands apart
When two quotes for the same driveway are far apart, the difference is almost always in the preparation you cannot see rather than the finish you can. Ask every company the same three questions:
- How will you prepare the surface, specifically? Grinding costs more than pressure washing and is the reason a finish lasts. We explain why in our guide to grinding versus pressure washing.
- What happens to the cracks and damaged patches before the new surface goes down?
- What warranty applies, and what does it exclude? Anyone who says crack repairs carry an unlimited warranty is telling you something about their honesty, not their workmanship.
